August 15th is bitter sweet for family, friends, and fans of LA rapper and community activist Nipsey Hussle who would’ve been celebrating his 38th birthday today.
Hussle, whose real name is Ermias Joseph Asghedom, was born to his black mother Angelique Smith and Eritrean father Dawit Asghedom who fled to the US to avoid war. He grew up on Crenshaw, in the southwest side of LA with his two siblings Samiel and Samantha. Although Nipsey was a high school dropout, got caught up in the gang life, and went to prison, he was determined for more out of life and began investing everything he had into music. After taking a trip to discover his roots in Eritrea with his father, Nipsey came back to the US with a new mindset ready to help his community.
