According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, SMU head football coach Rhett Lashlee debuted sophomore quarterback Kevin Jennings on Tuesday as reported by WFAA.

Preston Stone, the junior quarterback, will now be replaced by Jennings, who has already gotten a good amount of playing time in the Mustangs’ three games this season.

Jennings entered the game at various times during the Mustangs’ opening three games to help the team and  ignite things. In Friday’s 18–15 loss to BYU, Stone only completed two passes before Jennings entered the game to finish it.

During his time on the field this season, Jennings has thrown for 342 yards and one touchdown.

It’s clear from this announcement that head coach Lashlee and the Mustangs want to establish a distinctive identity on the offensive end of the field.

Coming up is a much-needed bye week which will allow SMU to regroup and get ready for their next opponent, TCU, on Saturday, September 21 at 4 p.m. on The CW Network.
