Officers from the LAPD are being credited with saving the life of Hip-Hop legend Kurtis Blow‘s life. Friday (November 4th) the rapper, born Kurtis Walker collapsed near a bus stop in Los Angeles after a reported argument with his son. Officers Chris Vege, Calvin Hill and Pete Parra worked to save the rapper, performing CPR on him.
In a statement, Blow said “The police saved my life, a Black man. In this day and age, people need to hear that!”
Kurtis Blow became the first rapper to be signed to a major record label when he signed with Mercury Records in 1979. His hit songs “Christmas Rappin” and “The Breaks” both went gold. He also starred alongside Run DMC, Sheila E. & Blair Underwood in the movie “Krush Groove.”
