97.9 The Beat and Boom 94.5 had the honor of joining in on the fun at yesterday’s community event at the American Airlines Center benefiting the families and friends of the slain officers in July’s Dallas Police Department sniper attack.
Hundreds of Dallas’ youth came together to enjoy basketball-themed activities, free giveaways of Mavs swag and a surprise performance from Matthew Knowles’ newest girl group Blushhh Music.
Notable attendees include Dr. Brian Williams, the Trauma Center surgeon who received the wounded officers on that fateful day of July 7th, Dallas Police Department Deputy Chief Christina Smith and our very own Rock T of the Rickey Smiley Show.
In a statement, Dallas Mavericks’ owner Mark Cuban says, “This is about connecting rather than teaching or preaching. My suggestion is that the more time kids and officers can have face to face the more we will unify our community.”
We were on the scene and recapped the event in the video clip above. The best part of the day? The kids doing popular Hip-Hop dance, the “Nae Nae” with with the DPD. Enjoy the fun above!
