Mary J. Blige is making headlines for her strides to continue her education despite her widely successful music career.

The Queen of Hip/Hop Soul was recently awarded an honorary diploma from Roosevelt High, her former high school in Yonkers, New York.

Now with her GED in hand, she’s set to become a student at Howard University as part of the upcoming class of 2014.

Mary made the official announcement during a performance on “Good Morning America” and told the audience the exciting news saying,

“As you know I never got a chance to finish high school but they gave me my honorary degree the other day….and I’ve been accepted into Howard University, the class of 2014!”
