North Texas law enforcement is gearing up for one of the largest protests in history this weekend! 50501, a grassroots movement, is holding demonstrations for the “No Kings Day of Mobilizations” across the country on Saturday, June 14. According to their website, this initiative is aimed to be a,” day of defiance. From city blocks to small towns, from courthouse steps to community parks, we’re taking action to reject authoritarianism—and show the world what democracy really looks like. The flag doesn’t belong to President Trump. It belongs to us. We’re not watching history happen. We’re making it.”

The significance of the date June 14 honors Flag Day, the 250th anniversary of the founding of the U.S. Army, and President Donald Trump’s birthday in which he has organized a military parade to be be held in Washington, D.C. NBC reports, the parade is expected to kick off at 6:30 p.m. ET/5:30 PM CT Saturday and is expected to last for over an hour, broken into celebrations of the Army’s eras: the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, World War I, WWII, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Gulf War, the Global War on Terror, the modern Army and the future. It will take place along the National Mall, along Constitution Avenue NW, between 15th and 23rd streets.

Gov. Greg Abbott has deployed 5,000 National Guard troops and 2,000 Department of Public Safety officers to “maintain order” at planned anti-Trump protests across the state The Houston Chronicle reports this massive deployment represents more than 20% of the state’s military forces and roughly half of DPS’s commissioned officers. Abbott is also the first governor to deploy troops in response to protests against President Donald Trump’s immigration raids and his planned military parade in Washington. Abbott said in his statement, “Texas will not tolerate the lawlessness we’ve seen in LA. Anyone who damages property or harms a person will be arrested. Don’t mess with Texas.” This announcement comes days after ICE protests erupted in Dallas where residents and Dallas Police Officers clashed with 1 protestors being arrested, luckily with no injuries.
