Two men have been charged in a wild shootout at a family barbecue three months ago in a Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania suburb that left five dead, including a woman who was eight months pregnant, reports The Washington Post.

The men, Cheron Shelton, 29, and Robert Thomas, 27, each face five counts of homicide, six of aggravated assault, six of recklessly endangering another person, conspiracy, and criminal homicide of an unborn child, writes the news outlet.

Allegheny County District Attorney Stephen Zappala said the men were already in police custody on unrelated charges, and the motive for the shooting appears to be revenge for the death of a friend three years ago, writes The Post:

Zappala told reporters at the press conference that just before 11 p.m. that Wednesday, Thomas and Shelton arrived at the Wilkinsburg home looking for a primary target, LaMont Powell. Shelton blamed Powell, one of the three people wounded, for killing his best friend three years ago, reported the AP.

Thomas swooped upon the cookout gathering from behind the backyard and began shooting from a .40-caliber pistol, Zappala said, firing at least 18 bullets. As the victims fled in fear toward the back of the house, Shelton was there waiting for them, allegedly opening fire with an assault rifle and blasting at least 30 shots from only feet away.

Four bodies were found on or near the back porch, Zappala said. The woman who was pregnant, 25-year-old Chanetta Powell, and the baby she was carrying died later at a hospital. Three others were injured. Three children inside the home at the time were not hurt, according to authorities.

The report says that earlier in the week, lawyers for both men tried to get them released from jail, “claiming they were being unfairly held in solitary confinement so authorities could ‘squeeze’ more information from them.”
