Now that legendary singer Prince has passed on, many people are wondering who will inherit his fortune. Although the artist was very proactive about handling legal matters surrounding the rights to his music, there’s no word on whether he had a will. Prince never conceived any children, both of his parents have passed away, and he was divorced. According to Minnesota state laws, if there wasn’t a will, his sister and half-siblings would take over his estate. They would have control over his band, his record label, and his unreleased music. “If Prince didn’t have a will, it could get very chaotic,” said estate planner Danielle Mayoras. “If he didn’t have a plan, he’d be leaving it up to chance.” Prince was reportedly worth $300 million and that number continues to grow as his music sales skyrocketed after his death. Three days after he passed away, fans purchased 2.3 million of his songs and his album sales were near 600,000. Read more.

107-Year-Old Woman Who Danced with Obamas Can’t Get Photo ID

The 107-year-old woman whose video of her dancing with the Obamas went viral is in the midst of an ID battle. According to reports, Washington D.C.’s Department of Motor Vehicles will not give Virginia McLaurin a new photo ID. McLaurin said she lost her ID a few years back when her purse was stolen. Although she and her son met with a DMV official in efforts to get it replaced, she needs to show a birth certificate. In order to get her birth certificate from South Carolina, she needs to present her ID. “I don’t think I’ll ever get that face card,” said McLaurin. “I was birthed by a midwife and the birthday put in a Bible somewhere. I don’t know if they even had birth certificates back then.” McLaurin, who now carries a temporary ID, can vote in D.C. since IDs aren’t required to cast a vote. But her temporary ID restricts her from doing many things, including flying. Read more.

Harriet Tubman’s Home to Become a National Park

Just days after it was announced that abolitionist Harriet Tubman will be the new face of the $20 bill, U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch signed a plan to have Tubman’s former home transformed into a national park. Located in New York, the home includes Thompson Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church and Tubman’s Home for the Aged. The land is now owned by Harriet Tubman Home, Inc. In regards to Tubman being featured on the $20, many people believe it is in poor taste. “When nearly half of all single African-American women have zero or negative wealth, and their median wealth is $100 — compared with just over $41,000 for single white American women — it is an insult,” said cultural critic Kirsten West Savali. “When African-American women earn on average 64 cents for every dollar paid to white, non-Hispanic men, compared with the 78 cents that white women earn for every dollar paid to white, non-Hispanic men, it is an insult.” Read more.
