We love when celebrities are socially conscious and aware of what’s going on in the world. Oftentimes there’s a disconnect between their privilege and the type of treatment they would receive if they weren’t famous.

Usher and Nas are two of the biggest artists in the world. The pair, along with singer Bibi Bourelly have come together to create the powerful new track, “Chains”.

In order to listen to the song, you actually have to “look into the eyes of the unarmed victims.” The track employs your computer or phones camera and as you listen to the song, you see the photos and a brief description of what happened to the individuals including Trayvon Martin, Rekia Boyd, Caesar Cruz and countless others.

If you aren’t focused directly on the screen, (your eyes are tracked by your camera) the song will stop playing and it will remind you, “don’t look away”.

Usher shares the inspiration behind the powerful song. “…I was motivated by the events involving prejudicial injustice that are still happening today. The reality is that racial bigotry diminishes the lives of too many people in our country. We have to come together as a country to solve these problems and this is one way I can contribute.”

He added, “I chose to introduce the song through the ‘Don’t Look Away’ experience because it is important not only to feel the issue but to face it. The pain and suffering that these victims and their families have endured is something we must never forget. When we look away from this problem it gets worse. To fix it, we have to face it.”

Listen to and watch the track exclusively on Tidal. Usher will be performing “Chains” at the Tidal X: 10/20 concert at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on October 20.
