Like out of a scene from an old hip-hop movie, the scene is so thick. The base of the 808’s is beating out monitors as the low raspy growl of Doughski G jumps on the beat and suddenly, I’m reminded of what the game’s been missing. Real lyrical content over a dope beat, that comes from the soul of a person that has survived the streets and a voice that speaks for the heartbeat of people!
Born in Inglewood, California; raised on the island of St. Croix, U.S.V.I., Doughski G’s life was destined to be a tale of triumph and victory over the adversities of poverty, homelessness and family drug addictions that would force him into the corridors of his own mind. Forged on the streets of Dallas after moving to Texas in August of 1996, Doughski G was loyal to the street game which became his extended family and way to survive the hungry cold nights he had become so accustomed to. Realizing this sort of lifestyle would only end in prison or the grave, he set out to turn the pages of his life to more positive aspirations after the epiphany of his true calling in life: music would be his instrumental expression of freedom and refuge.
Doughski G’s lyrical rap style is truly unique, making him a real star in his own right. Doughski G perfected and honed his lyrical talent rocking house parties and lashing opposing MCs in freestyle rap battles. His success gained him admirers and fans from all walks of life and genders. On April 20, 2010, Doughski G released his debut independent album, Doughski By the Zone. The success of the album propelled the artist to new heights of awareness and respect as a true star in the making! With such classic hits as “She Bad”, “HD TV” ft. the late great harmonica player, Bad News Brown and “Girl Like You” ft. JR Patton, the album was one of the biggest selling major independent artist albums in Dallas, TX during the time of its release.
Though his game has changed, his loyalty and commitment remains the same. Doughski G is an affiliate of NDA, which includes such major independent artists as Mr. Pookie, Mr. Lucci, T-Cash, Lil Will, Deonte’ and many more. Doughski G defines success by the style of music he creates. In April of 2011, the iconic rapper released his street EP, 7 GRAMS. The project received instant accolades by eagerly awaiting music/lifestyle retailers and fans. The EP includes such awesome records as “Blame”, “Keep Yo Chick” ft. Durrough and “My Life”.
“I’m not in this for the fame, I’m here to say something for the people and stake my name,” says Doughski G with an aggressive look in his eyes. Doughski G’s latest upcoming EP, 14 GRAMS is already getting much street buzz. The EP includes collaborations with national/major independent artists Big Chief, J-Dawg of Boss Hogg Outlaws, Mr. Lucci, Mr. Pookie and more!
