Carmelo Anthony handed out school supplies for the launch of  Tools For Teachers, an initiative where NYC teachers were present to pick up school supplies for their students.

In partnership with the DJS Real Estate Development, school supplies were delivered to an estimated 100 teachers in an effort to enhance learning opportunities and aid teachers in providing the best education possible. The schools have been selected based on test scores within underprivileged communities. Anthony recognizes the importance of education, and uses his foundation to give back to the community through a variety of outreach programs and donations.

Tools For Teachers joins several of Carmelo’s foundation initiatives, including Courts 4 Kids, A Very Melo Give Back and A Very Melo Christmas. Courts 4 Kids refurbishes basketball courts in underserved areas. The first court was completed in the summer of 2009 in Syracuse, and since then several more have been refurbished including one in New York City and three in Puerto Rico, as part of Anthony’s A Very Melo Weekend event held each summer. In partnership with Feed The Children and local community agencies, Anthony’s Give Back program has provided over 2400 families in need with food and personal supplies during the holidays and times of natural disaster. Deserving middle school students also benefit from Anthony’s annual A Very Melo Christmas charity event, where the foundation celebrates children who have contributed to their community.
