DALLAS – Police have made an arrested for the murder of a 20-year-old Dallas college student.

Samantha “Shelly” Nance was an Italy, Texas native who had been studying at the Art Institute of Dallas. She was found stabbed to death in her northeast Dallas apartment in mid-September.

Police have said all along it was not a random crime. Nothing was taken and there were no signs of forced entry. They concluded someone she knew killed her.

On Wednesday they questioned and arrested 26-year-old Daniel Willyam. He was her boyfriend’s roomate .

As he was taken to prison, Willyam denied killing Nance. He said he didn’t know why he was being arrested.

“I wish I was the one who was stabbed to death,” he said.

However, according to an arrest warrant affidavit, police determined using cell phone records that Willyam was in the area near Nance’s apartment at the time of her death. They recovered a plastic bag with her blood on it in his bathroom.

Witnesses also told police Willyam wanted a romantic relationship with Nance’s boyfriend and on several occasions had stated he hated her because she was “taking too much time away from the relationship that [he] was attempting to establish,” the affidavit states.

Nance’s family said the arrest is something they’ve been waiting on for the three months.

They said their daughter had always excelled at school and was the kind of person who was never in any trouble.
