DALLAS – As the temperatures drop, Dallas is enforcing its sprinkler ordinance to prevent roads from icing.

In fact, city worker Rodney Patterson is among seven others who drive Dallas neighborhoods searching for seeping water from sprinklers.

The team jumps into action when word comes of an impending freeze.

“We just want to see if there’s any standing water in the street,” Patterson said.

The team also aims to enforce city ordinances. Every resident with an automatic sprinkler is required to have a rain sensor and a freeze gauge at the risk of being fined up to $2,000 a day for non-compliance.

“We’ll come and check,” Patterson said. “It’s too dangerous this time of year not to.”
