DART Train Fire Halts Downtown Service, Sends Six to Hospital
A fire on a Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) train shut down service through Downtown Dallas Wednesday afternoon, causing major delays for riders and sending several to the hospital.
The fire sparked near the Pearl/Arts District Station around 3:38 p.m., just before the train entered a tunnel near Ross Avenue and North Central Expressway. About 30 passengers were evacuated from the train, and another 10 people nearby were also cleared from the area.
In total, 15 people were injured — nine were treated at the scene and released, while six others were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening conditions, including minor burns and anxiety-related issues.
Dallas Fire-Rescue had the fire out by 5 p.m., but DART service remained limited through Thursday morning as crews worked to restore full operations. As of Thursday, power has been restored to the Central Business District, and service is running between Victory Station, Union Station, and Pearl Station.
DART apologized for the disruption, thanking riders for their patience. Extra field staff have been deployed to assist riders navigating the modified routes.
WFAA reports riders can expect the following changes to DART service lines Thursday morning:
- Red Line, Westmoreland to Pearl Station: “Rail service operates northbound from Westmoreland to Pearl Station. From Pearl, trains will reverse direction on the same track and continue southbound service.” DART said.
- Blue Line, UNT Dallas to Union Station: “Rail service operates between UNT Dallas and Union only. Riders needing Central Business District (CBD) access may transfer to the Red Line.”
- Blue Line, Rowlett to Mockingbird Station: “Rail service operates between Rowlett and Mockingbird only. The bus bridge shuttle service will connect riders from Mockingbird, Cityplace, Deep Ellum, and Pearl Stations to the CBD.”
- Red/Orange Line, Parker Road to Mockingbird Station: “Rail service operates between Parker Road and Mockingbird Station only. There is no train service south of Mockingbird. To access downtown, a bus bridge shuttle service is available from Mockingbird, Cityplace, Deep Ellum, and Pearl Stations into the CBD.”
- Orange Line, DFW Airport to Victory Station: “Service is available between DFW Airport and Victory Station only. Riders can transfer to the Green Line for continued travel into the CBD.”
- Green Line, Victory to Pearl Station: “Rail service operates from Victory to Pearl Station on Track #2, then turns back southbound on the same track toward North Carrollton/Frankford Station.”
- Green Line, Deep Ellum to Buckner Station: “Rail service operates between Deep Ellum and Buckner only. Bus bridge shuttle service is available at Mockingbird, Cityplace, Deep Ellum, and Pearl Stations.”
