Lauryn Hill and Doechii Surprise Fans with ‘Doo Wop (That Thing)’ Performance at Jazz in the Gardens
Lauryn Hill surprised the audience at the Jazz in the Gardens (JITG) Music Festival by bringing out Doechii to perform the iconic hit “Doo Wop (That Thing)” together.
Although Doechii was already scheduled to perform, Hill’s unexpected on-stage collaboration took fans by surprise.
The two artists delivered a powerful performance, with Doechii rapping the verses while Hill provided hype and support in the background.
After the show, Doechii shared her overwhelming gratitude on social media, writing,
“Thank you Miss Lauryn Hill. Thank you. My heart is so full. She is my hero. This is the greatest honor hip hop could give me. Praise God
… my entire body is vibrating with joy right now. I’ll never forget this day! EVER!”
Doechii also reflected on the nerves she felt before the performance, admitting,
“I never been so nervous in my life
she is a QUEEN.”
This collaboration follows Doechii’s successful performance at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards, where she showcased her songs “Catfish” and “Denial Is a River” from her album Alligator Bites Never Heal.
Despite facing allegations of using a pre-recorded voice during the Grammy performance, Doechii firmly defended her live performance, calling out critics and explaining that she had performed while battling bronchitis and the flu.
“I worked my ass off to build the stamina for that, for y’all to play in my face,”
Doechii added.
“I don’t lip-sync. Don’t ever fucking play with me like that. Ever!”
The performance at Jazz in the Gardens added to Doechii’s already impressive career, marking another unforgettable moment as she continues to make her mark in the hip-hop scene.
