Reportedly a fire broke out at the Dallas Cowboys’ training camp, prompting a call to first responders according to officials. Oxnard Police and Fire Department responded quickly to the area and effectively contained the fire shortly after.
The incident occurred during a team walkthrough several hundred yards away, and multiple staff members observed smoke before informing local police and hotel workers, despite the fact that the building was uninhabited.
At 6:10 p.m. PT, the Cowboys issued the following official statement regarding the incident:
There was a fire emergency in one of the guest rooms this afternoon at the team’s hotel in Oxnard, Calif. The emergency was contained to one room that was empty at the time, and there were no injuries. The Dallas Cowboys thank the Oxnard Fire Department and Oxnard Police Department for their quick response and reaction to the situation.”
The team finished their afternoon walkthrough with no disruptions, and the Cowboys are still on track to depart Oxnard for Dallas on Thursday afternoon to finalize their preparations for their preseason finale versus the Los Angeles Chargers at AT&T Stadium.
The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time.
