Last year, 21-year-old Dylann Roof walked into a historic black church in Charleston, South Carolina, and opened fire, killing nine people. Now, as he stands trial for his horrific actions, the court is gaining more insight into the racist rhetoric that allegedly lead to Roof committing a massacre.

The irony behind his beliefs about black people, Jeff Johnson notes, is that he emulates the very things he associates with them- especially violence. But Jeff says this is very fact should be a reminder to us, that racism is best fought with black excellence, not anger.
