Kanye West used to be our front-runner for president in 2020. But now that we know the full extent of Yeezy’s friendship with president-elect Donald Trump, we have to accept that it’s time to start looking for new candidates.

But who could give The Donald a run for his money in 2020?

Or even better, who could lead a full out military coup of the Oval Office before Trump and his henchmen conspire to make America hate again?

The answer to both questions is Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, a bi-partisan, multi-racial, second-generation immigrant who’s currently dominating one of America’s greatest global products: Hollywood.

Whether he’s saving the world on screen, or doing his best to impact it positively in reality, Johnson seems to be the bulletproof pick. The only questions are if and when he will run.

And it’s not just a popularity contest. When you add up the evidence — from temperament to policy to work ethic — the former WWE champ may be the best president America can produce. And even though movies like “Fast & Furious 7” and “G.I. Joe” suggest he could, he probably won’t have to take the White House by force. Why not him after Trump, Schwarzenegger and Reagan?

The Rock is reportedly a registered Republican but also calls the Obamas and Clintons his buddies. Unlike our president-elect, Johnson has long been interested in a career in politics and would take a position in office very seriously.

“I used to say it jokingly but every time I was asked, it was with a real genuine interest…So I started to really think. Could I make a difference? Could I surround myself with really brilliant people to help me make decisions? Do I care about this country? And when the answers continued to come up yes, then I thought, there’s a good chance. Yeah, one day.” – The Rock

After Trump won in November, Johnson told Vanity Fair, “This past election shows that anything can happen.” As Trump continues to prove that fact with increasingly troublesome behavior, it’s time to start positioning for a reversal. The Rock’s universal charm and fearless demeanor would perfectly counter Trump’s fear-mongering and divisiveness.

The Washington Post speculates that Johnson’s chances of winning the presidency are also boosted by his mixed-race, his Republican values and being from the battleground state of Florida.

On Instagram, Johnson said “I care DEEPLY about our county…and the idea of one day becoming President to create real positive impact and global change is very alluring.” His biggest global impact could be his courageous approach to mental health.

The Rock also donates much of his earnings from Hollywood to educational and philanthropic causes, including $1 million to his former school, The University of Miami. He even saves puppies.

While visiting the Army vs. Navy football game this weekend, Donald Trump made a comment about how the game wasn’t any good. It’s common knowledge among sports fans that those match-ups are more about tradition than the sport, but Trump’s lack of respect for the occasion and the players and coaches who were participating, are perfect example of why he’s not the kind of leader America needs. Though not as serious, his comments are reminiscent of his disrespect of military veterans in the past year.

It’s hard to imagine the Rock being so flippantly disrespectful to anyone, let alone college athletes or military veterans. He played NCAA football for the Miami Hurricanes in the 1990’s and routinely volunteers to entertain and honor the U.S. Military. And his respect appears to apply to every human being no matter their race, gender, class, age or sexual preference.

Former wrestler Jesse Ventura was laughed at when he ran for office, but he became the 38th governor of Minnesota. Why not The Rock?

Can you smell a run for president from Dwayne Johnson in 2020?

We can.
