“I think Black people, particularly young Black people have a love-hate thing with Kanye. He seems to have devolved from the Kanye who stood before us and said, ‘George Bush doesn’t care about Black people.’ Remember that Kanye?”

Kanye West was trending on social media all day Tuesday, once again for not the best reasons. Days after being released from the hospital where he was treated for a mental breakdown, Yeezy hopped a PJ to New York City, hailed a cab to Trump Tower and — for reasons absolutely nobody can understand — had a meeting in the lobby with President-Elect Donald Trump.

Kierna Mayo, SVP of Brands and Content for Interactive One (Global Grind’s parent company) appeared on Don Lemon’s CNN show Tuesday night to help us make sense of it all.

“That was a Kanye that really connected with us for lots of very clear reasons,” Mayo says of the West who put George W. Bush on blast on live television. “Today’s seems like a troubled soul quite frankly and I think for a lot of us, we were…more like, ‘what are you doing Kanye? Have a chamomile tea and take a seat. Get yourself together’” She added, “He is just getting out of a mental institution, he is in crisis.”

Mayo had a lot more to say about Trump and ‘Ye’s strange meeting, and about the other Black celebrities who graced his lobby today. Watch the clip above to see how the conversation went down.
