Obama Family Planning To Stay In DC After Presidency

In January 2017, when the Obama’s leave the comfort of Pennsylvania Ave. they may be headed to another home just blocks way. Apparently, Sasha will be a Sophomore in high school at the time and President Obama doesn’t want to take her away from her friends. In his decision to not immediately move back to their native cities of Hawaii or Chicago, the president previously told Barbara Walters, “Mrs. Obama and the girls “have made a lot of sacrifices on behalf of my cockamamie ideas, the running for office and things.” As a matter of national security, as the former president, Obama will have a strict set of guidelines to adhere to when selecting his new place to live. It’s said that they may choose to reside in the upscale neighborhood of Kalorama and Embassy Row. A home in this area could cost between $5 million to $7 million. {DCist}

Los Angeles Picks First Black Woman to Head Nation’s Second-Largest School District

In a unanimous 7-0 vote by the school board Michelle King was recently elected to be the superintendent of the Los Angeles Unified School District. The historic move makes the former high school principal the first African American woman to oversee the second-largest district in the nation. Previously, King was LAUSD’s Chief Deputy Superintendent. In her new position, the 54-year-old will oversee a $7 billion budget for a school system with over than 650,000 students. {The LA Times}

Anchorman, Al Roker Receives Justice In Racial Profiling Incident

Over the Thanksgiving holidays, weatherman for the “Today Show”, Al Roker took to social media to express his frustration with racial profiling. He filed a complaint stating that a taxi driver refused to provide service to he and his 13-year-old son in favor of a white customer. The driver, Mahabur Rahman has recently plead guilty to the offense. This is the second time Rahman has been penalized for violating discriminatory laws. He will have to pay a fine of $500. {Page Six}

Chicago Mayor Wants To Change The Legal Age To Purchase Alcohol

Hawaii, New York, Boston, Cleveland, Kansas City are places in which the legal age to purchase tobacco has recently been raised from 18 to 21. Chicago’s Mayor Rahm Emanuel is using these cities and states as a reference when he introduces an ordinance at the next City Council meeting that would raise the minimum age to buy tobacco products in Chicago from 18 to 21. According to a statement from the mayor’s office, the goal of the ordinance is to “protect young adults from starting a dangerous lifelong habit.” {Chicago Sun Times}
