I’m a father of two daughters, and I struggle everyday to explain Black beauty to them. In an age where their Black female features are beautiful on everyone except Black women, how do I explain to them that they are beautiful?

At the same time, I wonder how I am supposed to tell them Black is beautiful, while making sure they are accepting of all races. I am not one of those people who thinks Blacks should only be with Blacks, and Whites should stay with Whites. We should love whoever we want to love, regardless of race, gender, or football team.

Still, when Amandla Stenberg touched on my dilemma in an infograph while asking if female Black lives matter, I stood up to cheer! Do Black female lives matter? Of course, but how can I explain that to my daughters when Black women are objectified left and right? I’m confused. I myself might end up out on a date with a White woman. Does that tell my daughters they are less beautiful?

I try to teach my kids that everyone is beautiful regardless of shape, size, or how their hair looks. I think as a society, we all need to get out of the box and understand that we’re all people. Black girls look great with blonde hair, and White girls look rather fly with braids.

People are different in as many ways as they are similar. I like Seinfeld, and I have White friends who like Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air; we can exist in this world together, a world where little Black girls can be just as beautiful as little White girls with purchased plump lips and thicker booties.

Black is beautiful, White is beautiful, brown is beautiful, yellow is beautiful, everyone is beautiful.

We need to get to a place where it’s not a big deal that a White girl with blue hair and braids speaks out against police brutality. We also need for that little White girl to not be afraid of the repercussions of using her voice for a good purpose. We are damned if we do, and we are damned if we don’t.

I’m not going to sit here and pretend that if Kylie would have tried to make a political statement about #BlackLivesMatter, the internets would have roasted her. That’s what they do, but it doesn’t mean that we don’t need more mainstreamsvoices that live in the culture to be down with the culture 100 percent.

Do that and we’ll let you bask in the beauty of Blackness.
