“I want to do a play a year!” Brandy gushed to #TeamBeautiful. The 36-year-old singer/actress landed the lead role as “Roxie Hart” in the Broadway musical, Chicago and we can’t wait to see her slay it during her limited run from April 28-June 21. We got the chance to preview Brandy’s skills as Roxie and she sang, “Roxie Hart” and “Nowadays” with Amra-Faye Wright. To say we were impressed is an understatement.

The Grammy winning songstress is no stranger to acting as she starred in her own sitcom (a fave of ours), “Moesha” as well as BET’s “The Game” and she’s even had the pleasure of playing the first Black Cinderella alongside legend and Brandy’s personal hero, Whitney Houston. This obviously gives her all the musical and acting background she needs to kill the game as Roxie. Check out the video above to see how Brandy feels about her starring role and who she hopes plays her in a Broadway musical!

Set amidst the swanky decadence of the 1920s, Chicago is the story of Roxie Hart, a housewife and nightclub dancer who murders her on-the-side lover after he threatens to walk out on her. Desperate to avoid conviction, she dupes the public, the media and her rival cellmate, Velma Kelly, by hiring Chicago’s slickest criminal lawyer to transform her malicious crime into a barrage of sensational headlines, the likes of which might just as easily be ripped from today’s tabloids.

Chicago currently stars Grammy Award winner Jennifer Nettles as Roxie Hart and Carly Hughes as Velma Kelly through Sunday, March 29 only. Beginning Monday, March 30, Emmy Award nominee Paige Davis begins a 4-week engagement as Roxie Hart (through Monday, April 27) and international stage sensation Amra-Faye Wright returns to the company as Velma Kelly (through Sunday, July 26). Chicago also currently stars Tony Award nominee John Dossett as Billy Flynn, Raymond Bokhour as Amos Hart, NaTasha Yvette Williams as Matron “Mama” Morton and R. Lowe as Mary Sunshine.

Chicago is now the #1 longest-running American musical in Broadway history and Brandy is now a part of this history. Awesome! Black Girls Rock! Who’s coming to see Brandy with us!? And just because…look at her!
