Crunchy Black (pictured), a former member of the Academy Award-winning hip-hop groupThree 6 Mafia was shot over the weekend and hospitalized in Las Vegas at an undisclosed location. When news of the shooting broke on Tuesday, the details surrounding it remained cloaked, reports MTV News.
Black, whose actual name is Darnell Carlton is bandaged around his torso and from the looks of things, the injury is not a minor one. Yet despite his probable discomfort, Black still managed to flash a gang sign to his adoring fans.
Black joined the Memphis-based Three 6 Mafia crew just before the release of their 1995 debut album “Mystic Stylez.” As a main contributor on many of the group’s hit songs, Black, parted company with his fellow performers eleven years later. Why the producer with the famed gangsta walk dance left the successful group was not known, but he was not elbowed out as believed by some folks with wagging tongues.
The Memphis-based Three 6 Mafia won an Academy Award for Best Original Song for their 2005 song “It’s Hard Out Here for a Pimp” at the 78th Academy Awards for the film Hustle and Flow. After the win, the group managed to maintain a huge cult following.
Police officials are still investing the shooting.
