According to WFAA:
DALLAS – NorthPark Center introduced a new code of conduct Wednesday that may not be popular with North Texas teens.
The new policy says anyone under the age of 17 can’t be in the mall without a parent or guardian after 6 p.m. Additionally, any clothing that covers the face and clothes that show underwear would violate the code of conduct.
However, those under 17 who can provide proof of a purchased ticket and are attending a movie at AMC NorthPark 15 after 6 p.m. are exempt from the policy, according to an e-mail from the theater.
NorthPark said 100 percent of its retailers support the change. Some of their 70,000 daily customers we talked with did as well.
“Things have changed out here in the last few years, and I think it is a little bit chaotic,” said shopper Susan Weaver. “And there are a lot of teens hanging around, [so] it’s a little unruly at times.”
Security will approach teenagers and ask for a form of ID. If they are in violation, parents are called to pick them up.
“We just think where you have that many people in one place at one time, it’s a good idea to have some common-sense rules of conduct for everybody to follow,” said NorthPark spokesperson Mark Annick.
They are telling local school officials to warn students about loitering, yelling, and using offensive language, or they could be removed.
Other shoppers felt the policies were tough.
“If there haven’t been tons of problems, then I think this is a good, safe environment for teens to just hang out without parents,” said college student Morgan Weaver.
NorthPark claims it is all about fostering a family-friendly environment.
Not all of the changes were aimed at teens.
If you’re an adult, you can’t take any pictures or video of the stores in the mall.
