Last month FOX 4 shared the story of a soldier who surprised his girlfriend in North Texas with a wedding proposal from Afghanistan. Now he is home for a belated holiday celebration.

Army Staff Sgt. Keith Henson proposed to Hariet Hardemon in a military greeting on Good Day just before Christmas.

“I told her one day if I propose to you I want it to be big,” he said.

Henson said the video proposal took five or six takes.

“I must’ve been there for 10 minutes trying to get it right,” he said.

He had been scheduled to return home for Christmas but got bumped.

“I was kind of hoping that I’d be home when it all happened, and as she was watching TV I’d be standing behind her with the ring. She’d turn around and I’d have the ring right there, but it didn’t work out that well,” he said. “But it still worked out.”

Now that Henson has made it home, he plans to spend the next two weeks with his new fiancé. He will return to Afghanistan for five months, but should be back before his October wedding.
