Dallas Track Queen Sha’Carri Misses 200m Final by a Hair
It’s been a heavy week for Sha’Carri Richardson — and the track felt it.
The sprint queen missed the cut for the 200-meter final at the U.S. track and field championships Sunday, clocking in at 22.56 seconds. Just one hundredth of a second behind Madison Whyte, who snuck through with 22.55. That’s how close it was — blink and it’s gone.
This was Sha’Carri’s first time lining up for the 200 all season. A year ago, she was on fire: bronze in the 200, gold in the 100, and gold again in the 4×1 relay at Worlds in Budapest. She was the face of U.S. track and still is — but the road’s been rocky.
Just a week ago, she got arrested out in Seattle. Police say it was a domestic violence incident involving fellow sprinter Christian Coleman at the airport. She spent over 18 hours locked up at the SCORE jail in Des Moines, Washington. Fourth-degree charge — she’s out, but that cloud’s still hanging.
Still, Sha’Carri came out earlier this week and secured silver in the 100 meters, locking in her spot for the Paris Olympics. The 200 didn’t go her way, but she’s still in the mix. Still in the fight.
And in track — like hip hop — one setback don’t mean the story’s over.
