Thanks to the Straight Outta Compton movie in 2015 and the 2016 Michel’le biopic on Lifetime, Dr. Dre has been in the news a lot recently. The trend will continue in 2017 as HBO announced that it will air a 4-part documentary on Dre and music industry executive Jimmy Iovine called “The Defiant Ones”.  According to Billboard magazine, the project will be directed by Allen Hughes (known for films like Menace II Society, Dead Presidents, and American Pimp). Along with Dre and Iovine, it will include interviews with other music icons like Ice Cube, Nas, Gwen Stefani and Snoop Dogg. “The Defiant Ones” will cover the duo’s respective paths through the music industry, their partnership in Aftermath Records, their discovery of now-legendary rapper Eminem, and their groundbreaking “Beats By Dre” headphones deal with Apple. Viewers will also be treated to never-before-seen in studio footage of various artists Dre & Iovine worked with like Eazy-E, Bruce Springsteen, and NWA.
