Gospel artist James Fortune has been arrested after a domestic incident, where he allegedly lashed out at his wife.
Authorities in Texas picked James up last weekend and booked him on charges of aggravated assault against a family member. At the time, media outlets were not reporting which family member James allegedly attacked, FOX 26 in Houston has revealed that the arrest came after an incident with his wife, Cheryl Fortune.
This is not James’ first violent display, either. Famous for inspirational songs like “Hold On” and “I Believe,” many may not know that James has been in trouble for domestic violence before. About 12 years ago, he pleaded guilty to hurting his stepson, who was just 4 years old at the time. The attorney that represent his stepson’s father revealed a few more details on James’ latest incident.
“He’s been charged with aggravated assault of a family member with a deadly weapon,”attorney Toni Jones told FOX 26 in Houston, adding that the weapon may have been a bar stool. She claims that Cheryl may have sustained serious injury from the fight.
“I believe the Stafford PD were concerned at the time of the investigation interviewing her. Possibly leg or her pelvis may have been fractured or broken,” Toni claims.
James hasn’t said much on the incident itself, but he did issue a public apology to AlwaysAList.com.
“I am truly sorry for the negative attention this situation has brought my wife, family, friends and business partners. Because it is a pending legal matter, I cannot comment on what has been reported,” he stated. “However, I understand the seriousness of this matter and ask that you respect the privacy of my family as we address this.”
