Jarvis Britton ,26, is jailed for a year after he threatened to kill President Obama on twitter multiple times. Britton first made threats against the president last summer, then apologized for them after The Secret Service paid him a visit, but he made the same mistake a second time this past September.
According to The New York Times, Britton allegedly tweeted while he was drunk “Let’s go kill the President” and “I think we could get the president with cyanide! #MakeItSlow.”
Britton is not the first for making these threats and he is also not the only one facing jail time; there are multiple people jailed for making these threats. Brian Leary, spokesman for the Secret Service commented on their efforts to stop threats online:
“We get information from many sources. Social media is one of them. We have the right and certainly the obligation to determine a person’s intent.”
