Ok, so a Compton rapper with gifted wordplay gets a radio shout from Dr. Dre? Yeah, you’d better listen up.

The young man who made quite a name for himself rapping over some of 2010’s most popular beats (“New York State of Mind,” “Monster”) is just about ready to take 2011 by storm. Soon to appear on XXL’s 2011 Freshman Class, avid hip-hop listeners better be ready for a young man who has set the online community alight over the past two years.

Drawing upon early 90’s influences such as 2pac, Dre, and Nas, Lamar has combined some astonishingly intricate rhymes with complex subject matter. Look no further than “Look Out for Detox” and “Ignorance is Bliss” as examples.

The man signed to the Top Dawg Ent. label will be performing at Venue 222 on Saturday March, 19 at one of many South By Southwest (SXSW) 2011 Showcase events. Even if you can’t get SXSW passes, make sure to head to Austin for the weekend anyway; he will probably make an appearance at one of many free parties.
