A task force is actively pursuing leads into the rapper’s 1997 murder.

A law enforcement source said the investigation of the unsolved case was reinvigorated after 13 years by new information, according to CNN.

The source could not elaborate on the information because an investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department, L.A. County District Attorney’s Office, and the FBI is ongoing.

Christopher Wallace aka Biggie Smalls or Notorious B.I.G. was shot and killed while riding in a Suburban after leaving a music industry party at Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles on March 9, 1997.

It is believed the shooting was ordered by Death Row Records executive Marion “Suge” Knight as retaliation for the killing of his artist Tupac Shakur six months earlier. Tupac’s murder also remains unsolved.

Retired Los Angeles Police Detective Russell Poole worked on the original investigation and believes police officers may have been involved. Poole believes David Mack, an officer involved in the LAPD Rampart Scandal, was involved as he was arrested for robbing a bank the same year.

Mack also drives a similar Chevrolet Impala to the one the gunman was riding in. Poole said one of Mack’s friends resembles the composite sketch of the killer. Mack’s criminal defense attorney Donald Re called the accusations ridiculous.
