R&B singer Monica took to the stage to open the Essence Music festival and performed a series of her biggest hits including her new song, ‘Love All Over Me’. In addition to her own material, Monica once again performed a tribute to her close friend and mentor Whitney Houston.

Today marks the 68th anniversary of the birth of one of black music’s greatest songwriters, Curtis Mayfield.

The lack of recognition made by BET's head honchos to Monica and her recent overwhelming success has sparked a Twitter outrage.

She says, "I didn't have a choice. As I have been performing lately I see the response to 'Love All Over Me' & it was a blessed feeling to see people singing along, holding their spouses and screaming during this record."

Monica has revealed that a followup to the tune may be in the works. The ‘Still Standing’ singer was reacting to the recent praise she received from Brandy and used the opportunity to discuss how they ended their notorious feud.
