At Sunday’s Tony Awards two of Hip-Hop and Hollywood’s leading  men won big when their Broadway stage play racked up triple honors.

Jay-Z and Will Smith’s Fela! was awarded three Tony’s for “Best Choreography”, “Best Sound Design of A Musical” and “Best Costume Design Of A Musical.”

As previously reported Carter and Smith were associate producers of the Bill T. Jones production alongside ?uestLove of the Roots and Will’s wife Jada.

Fela! was described as the “the most original play on Broadway” and told the story of Nigerian musician Fela Kuti.

The musical was nominated in 11 categories at Sunday’s awards ceremony including “Best Musical” and was noted for its “Afrobeat” music that helped tell the story of Kuti who was well known for his political activism.

In related news, Denzel Washington took home the Tony for “Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Play”—his first ever, for his role in the play Fences.

His co-star Viola Davis also took home an award for “Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Play.”
