Racy text messages could mean criminal charges for some North Texas students.

The latest “sexting” investigation is ongoing at Summer Creek Middle School in the Crowley Independent School District.

Just over a week ago, an assistant principal at the school called police after confiscating several cell phones with nude photos of an eighth grade student on them.

“The student took pictures of herself and sent it to her boyfriend,” said Sgt. Pedro Criado.

School officials said in a statement, “It is important to us that students understand the appropriate use of social media, and we will continue to provide resources and opportunities to inform students and parents of the acceptable use of technology.”

Investigators said as technology advances, so too does this growing problem.

In December a Keller student at Hillwood Middle School tipped administrators off to a so-called porn club where female students volunteered to text nude photos of themselves.

Police want students and parents to be aware that snapping and sending inappropriate images could constitute possession and distribution of child pornography.

Ultimately the district attorney will decide if any charges will be filed in this case.
