FORT WORTH, Texas – Fort Worth police say they have put a stop to a pair that was allegedly scamming people outside a gas station at a busy intersection.

Officers arrested 37-year-old Darrell Strong and issued a ticket to 38-year-old Amanda Williams for faking a situation in which appeared as though they’d run out of gas on Oakland Boulevard near Interstate 30 in Fort Worth.

According to a police report, an officer observed the pair standing near a 1999 gold Ford Taurus with its emergency flashers on.

The officer said in the report he has encountered both Strong and Williams involved in the same type of panhandling scam before. They park their car in a high traffic location with the flashers on and ask people for money for gas, he said.

In this case, the officer proceeded by asked Strong to turn the vehicle on. He noted the vehicle’s gas gauge indicated it was half full.

Strong and Williams were both cited for loitering with the purpose of begging.

Strong was arrested for an outstanding warrant for possession of drug paraphernalia.
