DALLAS – Dallas police say a gang-related shooting left a 13-year-old boy dead and another teen critically wounded.
Detectives believe the overnight shooting grew out of an ongoing dispute between rival gangs and an ongoing confrontation a few days earlier.
The two teens were shot in the courtyard of an apartment complex in North Dallas.
Police say the suspect walked up and just started firing, leaving bullet holes at the scene.
The 13-year-old victim was able to run about a block before falling. Police say he later died from a gunshot wound to the chest.
“I’m very shaken up,” said neighbor Sanara Branam. “Our neighbors have four children who could have been outside playing.”
Police don’t know how many people were involved in the shooting. Officers from the gang unit are trying to find the suspects now.
The 17-year-old who was wounded several times by gunfire is recovering in the hospital in critical condition.
