ACCORDING TO CBS 11 NEWS — “Two Garland ISD elementary schools were evacuated Tuesday morning after threatening letters containing white powder were received at the schools.  At each school, an employee opened the letter.

The first was at Ethridge Elementary school in Garland.  A female employee went to the Baylor Garland Medical Center emergency room covered in white powder at about 9:30 a.m.

According to Merril Balanciere, with the Garland Fire Department, the envelope was received in the Ethridge school office and contained a threatening letter and some type of white powdery substance. The employee opened the letter, was covered by the powder and began complaining of itching.

The fire department was called to Ethridge and everyone inside the building was evacuated to North Garland High School.

As a precaution, when the Ethridge school employee arrived at the ER part of the hospital was locked down for contamination of a possible hazardous material. The Ethridge letter was later determined to contain a non-toxic substance

Ethridge Elementary will soon be reopened and students and teachers will return to class. Any students that have already gone home or been picked up by parents will not be required to return.

The Dallas County Health Department has retrieved the Ethridge letter and the contents are being examined.

The Ethridge school employee remains at the hospital and is stable. No one else at that school is believed to have come in contact with the letter or its contents.

About an hour later, a second letter containing white powder was opened at Armstrong Elementary, which is a Garland ISD school in Sachse.  Armstrong was also evacuated as a precaution.

FBI spokesman Mark White says the agency is assisting with the investigation.”
