LANCASTER, Texas – A truancy officer was behind bars for allegedly fighting with a 16-year-old Lancaster student.

According to a school press release, the officer got into an altercation with the male student Friday afternoon at the J.D. Hall Learning Center (DAEP). The student sustained injuries and was taken by ambulance to a local hospital.

Lancaster ISD police officers were called to the school and arrested the truancy officer. He was taken to Lew Sterrett Justice Center.

The employee has been placed on administrative paid leave pending an investigation, the release states.

Police and school officials have not released the officer’s name. They also have not released details about who started or what motivated the fight.

However, the boy’s father claims the whole thing started over a lunch table trade.

Spencer Dixon said his son, Zenas Dixon, was swapping fruit with a friend and the officer got mad. He jumped him, he said.
