NACOGDOCHES, Texas – A thief with a generous spirit dropped a dollar into a Salvation Army kettle as he fled from the scene of the crime, police say.
Byron Garrett, 21, was arrested Tuesday morning after the Commercial Bank in the Nacogdoches Wal-Mart was robbed, according to KTRE-TV.
A witness allegedly saw Garrett make the donation outside the store as he ran off the property.
Bank manager Tommy Ellison confirmed his branch got its stolen money back — all except $1.
The bank has decided to leave the dollar in the kettle, Ellison said.
Nacogdoches is 170 miles southeast of Dallas.
