HOUSTON – An 18-year-old Houston-area honors student who’s charged alongside her mother with trying to hire someone to kill her father is getting his support following her probable cause hearing.

Ashley Shamp, of Katy, and her 38-year-old mother, Catherine Shamp, were charged last week with solicitation of capital murder for allegedly arranging the killing of David Shamp.

Authorities foiled the alleged plot when the teen’s ex-boyfriend, Nathaniel Blake, wore a recording device while meeting with Ashley’s mother. Authorities say Blake was asked to commit the crime for $20,000.

Ashley walked out of court Monday morning with her dad’s arms wrapped around her after the probable cause hearing. Her attorney says she’s innocent of the charge.

Online records show Catherine Shamp was being held Monday at the Harris County Jail but officials didn’t say whether she had an attorney.
