Rihanna had a successful second collaboration with her Fenty x Puma collection. The ANTI-star showed during Paris Fashion Week at The Hotel Salomon de Rothschild for an intimate presentation. The show was live streamed on TIDAL. Hello Beautiful spoke exclusively with Maciej Sobocinkski, the Creative Director and MultiCamera Director of the live streaming portion of the show. The live stream was produced by Scott Mirkin / ESM Productions.
What process goes into the planning and creating and developing a show that will be live streamed?
It was a very secret project and my role started a week before that night. Rihanna’s team, led by Ciarra Pardo, was very prepared. Rihanna and her team had created the idea, the collection, and the way it would be presented for the ‘Marie Antoinette wonderland.’ Creatively, it was pre-prepared and ready, so it was easier to get an idea of what the show was supposed to be and figure out how to present it to a global audience watching via their computers and phone.
The show seemed a bit complicated, occurring in various rooms. Was this easy to plan?
Rihanna said from the very beginning it wasn’t going to be like a regular fashion show. I was very excited about this, because as a Creative Director, all my fashion shows are directed in a different way. When I saw the venue, the challenge was to have three shows in one place. The flow was in a direct line in the first room and circles in the second and third rooms.
Rihanna stated that Marie Antoinette was a big influence in this collection, how did you reflect this via the live stream?
The Hotel de Salomon de Rothschild is a special, unique place – when you enter you are in this atmosphere, so from the very beginning, I knew I wanted to illustrate to the viewers the venue with this elaborate architecture, walls, ceilings, chandeliers and more. I wanted the viewers to realize they are in an intimate place. I had a chance to play with shadows, windows, what’s behind, mirrors and more. It’s the little things that make every show different, specifically this one.
How many cameras were used in the live stream?
13 cameras: 6 robo cams on heads, 7 fixed cameras for wide top shots.
What was the show like, in the moment?
The show was very intense. Models were approaching the set every 12-14 seconds. I was thrilled by the challenge to get angles of the cameras to get the nice, clear shots of the clothes, which of course, were the most important thing.
What is something that happened at the show that we didn’t see via live stream?
During the second show broadcast, just right after Rihanna left the third room, she came out for applause and started to spontaneously dance! I suppose she was happy and relieved and we had it live! We didn’t have it for the first show – so this was live television and different. That’s why I love live stream, especially with such a great Artist and Designer as Rihanna. It was special.
