Miami Dolphins v Seattle Seahawks

The numbers aren’t in yet but the reviews are: Twitter‘s first livestreaming of an NFL game was a success.

The free stream took place during Thursday night’s Buffalo Bills vs. New York Jets game. The amount of views the stream got hasn’t been released yet, but the Twitter reportedly paid less than $15 million for 10 Thursday Night Football games.

While Twitter can’t make any money from the ads because they’re the same ones shown on TV, it’s still a huge score for the social media platform.

The stream was paired with a constant flow of curated live tweets; a smart idea because tweeting is always paired with a big game or award show nowadays. It’s also much easier to watch Thursday Night Football on Twitter because it doesn’t require you to log in in to your cable provider’s account.

Streaming sporting events isn’t all Twitter’s ready to do.

We started in sports to go prove the model, but you can look outside of sports,” Twitter COO Adam Bain told Wired.

And just like that, Twitter is about to get a lot more fun.
