Amanda Seales is serving oh my gawd is this my life funny in her new web series, ‘Get Your Life.’

Issa Rae’s youtube channel is hosting the series that is bringing black girl realness to the internet. The show plays upon the awkward tensions and situations that we encounter every day with a hilarious twist.

The comedic webisodes follow a woman living in LA as she navigates life, love and career. The show does not hold back, covering everything from dueling black hollywood actresses to dating woes to being self conscious about how your privates may taste (stock up on the pineapple juice).

We talked to comedian/writer Amanda Seales about how she came up with the idea and how she came in contact with Issa Rae.

Q: Can you talk a little bit about how you came to collab with Issa?

I knew I wanted to do a scripted digital series and Issa is the homie. Her youtube platform has been a great place for black creative content so it was a no brainer to reach out. I shared the idea with her and she said if I shot it it had a home. I was originally going to shoot in NYC but as my life developed and I decided to move to LA the show’s setting and premise became LA rooted as well.

Q: What is your vision for the series?

This is a series that has so much potential. Ideally I hope for it to eventually be on a TV or major web platform, following the footsteps of “Broad City”. As a black woman comedian/actress/writer we are limited in opportunities for representation so we must create them ourselves. I want to have a show that can be a home for us to shine in our different flavas of comedic glory!

Q: Who is your target audience?
Our target audience is the same audience that sat in front the tv and made “Empire”, “Scandal” and “The Wiz Live” a hit! The same audience that is continuously underserved and underappreciated. Black America. That doesn’t mean anyone can’t watch and laugh with the show but that’s the voice I speak from and who we speak to.

Q: What inspires your comedy?

LIFE. I am very fortunate to have a life that is never a dull moment. Thankfully, my days never lack for material! With this show I wanted the moments to feel unique and just like some things happen to you and it feels like a movie, or something else will happen and it feels like a tv show, that’s how the episodes are with Get Your Life you never know what you’re gonna get because Amanda in the show (and Amanda in real life, truth be told) never knows either!!!
