Courtney Best tapped into some of her #BlackGirlMagic during a smoke break at the Texas pizza shop where she is employed. According to reports, Best saved saved a 7-year-old boy from getting kidnapped. On July 9, Best stepped outside her place of work in Corpus Christi, Texas, to have a smoke. However, instead of her normal routine of going to the back of the joint, she decided to stay out front.

“I stepped outside, I was standing by the trash can, and I [saw] a white car pull up, and I just happen to take my phone with me, ’cause we don’t look at our phones at work, and I looked down and I saw ‘white Dodge Avenger Amber Alert,’ and I was like, ‘Nah, that’s not him,’ ” Best told KRIS TV.

The Amber Alert was for a 7-year-old boy who had been abducted from Alice, Texas.

Best said she saw a man walking with the child, and initially wasn’t convinced that it was the right people, but noticed that the little boy looked scared. She waited until the pair went into a Dollar Store before checking the license plate against the Amber Alert. It was a match, so she immediately called the police. The suspect was arrested and the boy was returned home safely.

Best admitted that she usually didn’t pay attention to Amber Alerts, but let her story be a message to all of us not to take these things lightly. It’s a good thing that the child was returned home safe and sound.
