The Ariana Grande donut incident will simply not go away.

What started as the 22-year-old pop star innocently smooching her backup dancer and rumored boo Ricky Alvarez at a donut shop in California took a turn for the worse, when TMZ caught her foolishly blurting out “I hate America” on tape. But apparently, the shenanigans didn’t end there. According to Us Weekly, Grande not only licked the donuts, but spit on them too, and peer pressured Alvarez into joining her. Here’s the really bad part – customers purchased the same donuts later that day. You could consider the tasty treats a packaged deal, with Grande’s saliva.

What we all thought was a silly prank became a matter concerning the police and Environmental Health Department once they took a look at the footage. But it wasn’t Grande’s spit they were interested in. Spokeswoman for the Riverside County Department of Environmental Health, Dottie Ellis-Merki, said the agency was investigating why the doughnuts were left out unprotected and exposed to the public, in violation of state food laws.

Ellis-Merki added that investigators found no further issues at the shop on Wednesday, while the owner of the shop claims he doesn’t usually leave donuts out for long periods of time… Sounds a little fishy, don’t ya think?

They’re the donuts that just keep on giving. On top of this scandal, Grande has already been replaced by Demi Lovato as the MLB All-Star Game headliner and even made a formal apology for her anti-America comment yesterday.

She told Us Weekly:

“I am EXTREMELY proud to be an American and I’ve always made it clear that I love my country. What I said in a private moment with my friend, who was buying the donuts, was taken out of context and I am sorry for not using more discretion with my choice of words. As an advocate for healthy eating, food is very important to me and I sometimes get upset by how freely we as Americans eat and consume things without giving any thought to the consequences that it has on our health and society as a whole. The fact that the United States has one of the highest child obesity rate in the world frustrates me. We need to do more to educate ourselves and our children about the dangers of overeating and the poison that we put into our bodies. We need to demand more from our food industry. However I should have known better in how I expressed myself; and with my new responsibility to others as a public figure I will strive to be better. As for why I cannot be at the MLB show, I have had emergency oral surgery and due to recovery I cannot attend the show. I hope to make it up to all those fans soon. That being said let me once again apologize if I have offended anyone with my poor choice of words.”

What do you think, do you buy it? The apology, I mean. Not the donuts, obviously.
