Last weekend, two Mississippi officers were killed while conducting a traffic stop. Now, after several suspects were charged in connection to the double homicide, the murder weapon has officially been found.
According to Reuters, it was a .40 caliber Smith and Wesson handgun that was used to shoot officers Benjamin Deen and Liquori Tate.
The firearm used in the slayings of two Mississippi police officers last weekend was found on Friday, state law enforcement officials said.
The Mississippi Department of Public Safety said in a statement that ballistics testing of the .40 caliber Smith and Wesson handgun confirmed it was the same one used to shoot officers Benjamin Deen, 34, and Liquori Tate, 25.
The site also notes that almost a dozen officers have been killed this year, stating:
Deen and Tate were the ninth and 10th law enforcement officers in the United States shot and killed by assailants in 2015, according to the Officer Down Memorial Page, a non-profit organization that tracks police deaths in the line of duty.
29-year-old Marvin Banks was charged with two counts of capital murder, his brother Curtis Banks and Joanie Calloway were charged with accessory after the fact of capital murder, and four more were charged with obstruction of justice.
