According to necolebitchie.com:
It’s been almost nine years since Dave Chappell’s been in the spotlight, and he is now returning to the stage as the headliner of the 15-city Funny or Die Oddball Comedy & Curiosity Tour. Unfortunately, things have been a little rough. For the most part audiences have been more than happy to see him back on stage, however, he has had to deal with the occasional heckler giving him a hard time. During the show in Austin last week, he was being heckled by an encouraging fans, and when security tried to throw the guy out, Dave told security, “I need his strength. He’s inspiring me.”
Last night, things went a little different in Hartford. According to tons of news reports, Dave stormed off stage during his show, however, Ebony Magazine’s Lesli-Ann Lewis was in the audience and gave a different spin to the story than what was being reported all over the media. She said as much as people want to fault Dave for having a meltdown, it was a rowdy, rude, disrespectful, drunk, nearly all white, mostly male audience who forced Dave to throw his hands up and walk out. She wanted people to know that she didn’t blame Dave for walking off and it was an uncomfortable situation that just kept getting worse.
