Since the shooting that resulted in the death of teenager Trayvon Martin, the state of Florida has been receiving major backlash regarding its Stand Your Ground laws. People blame these laws for contributing to the “not guilty” verdict in the George Zimmerman case. Stevie Wonder is one the biggest names in the music industry that doesn’t agree with the controversial law, and is refusing to hide his feelings about it. While Stevie Wonder started his Florida boycott, many others from the industry have decided to join him in his boycott by not performing in Florida including Usher, Rod Stewart, Rolling Stones, *Jay Z, *Justin Timberlake, Kanye West, Alicia Keys, Madonna, *Rihanna, Mary Mary, Trey Songz, Keyshia Cole, and many more.
While there are some notable names amongst this list we couldn’t but help to notice that there are couple names missing, like Beyonce and Kim Kardashian.
If the list holds up, along with the boycott, it will cost the state millions of dollars in lost revenue and taxes. On the other hand, some artists are already having a change of thought regarding their decision.
According to the Huffington Post, Jay Z and Justin Timberlake are still doing their performance on August 16th at the Sun Life Stadium for their ‘Legends of the Summer’ tour, and Rihanna is now on record saying she never joined the boycott. They may not be the only ones with a change of thought when the media attention dies down and the reality of losing money kicks in.
