Sen. Rick Santorum (R-PA) shared a very racist moment while discussing Medicare in Iowa on Monday. As a reform, Santorum wants to do away with welfare, with a hope that every American will be able to financially provide for their family without assistance from the government.
In order for that to happen, he says the American economy must be in a better situation. He disclosed that an expansion of Medicare is a ploy to garner more votes, making the people more dependent on Washington.
Everything was feasible until he added “I don’t want to make black people’s lives better by giving them other people’s money… I want to give them the opportunity to go out and earn their own money and provide for themselves and their families.”
Santorum must not be aware of the statistics on race and percentage of welfare payments each month. Blacks and Latinos have higher rates of poverty than whites, but whites account for a bigger population, thus making them the largest group to receive welfare payments.
