An eight-month-old boy is safe after the pickup truck he was in was stolen from a Garland daycare center Wednesday evening.

Police spokesman Officer Mke Hatfield said the vehicle was taken from the Magic Land Childcare Center at 1517 West Buckingham Road around 6:30 p.m. The infant had been left sleeping in a car seat while his mother ran inside to pick up other children.

The abandoned truck and the child — still safe and sleeping in his car seat — were found 30 minutes later about one mile away in the 2500 block of Western Drive. Police said efforts to find the vehicle were helped by the OnStar tracking service.

A witness at the daycare described the suspect as a white man with blond hair. He remained at large Wednesday evening. Call Garland Crime Stoppers at 972-272-8477 if you have any helpful information.
